Tribal leaders express support for Willamette Falls Trust

In today’s meeting of the partners of the Willamette Falls Legacy Project, leaders of four Tribal governments submitted letters of support for the Willamette Falls Trust to be admitted as a full partner to the Willamette Falls Legacy Project. The representatives from the Confederated Tribes of Siletz Indians, Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation, Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs and the Confederated Tribes and Bands of the Yakama Nation expressed support for the Trust as essential to the future of Willamette Falls and the public riverwalk.

As Davis “Yellowash” Washines, Government Relations Liaison in the Yakama Nation Department of Natural Resources, said in the meeting, “Collaboration leads to creation, and creation leads to success.” This was re-iterated by Jim McKenna from the State of Oregon and Metro Council President, Lynn Peterson.

In addition, the four Tribes issued a joint resolution, delegating Willamette Falls Trust as their representative in matters related to the public riverwalk at the Falls.

We are honored by the support from the leadership—also members of the board’s Tribal Leadership Committee—and continue to be wholly committed to inter-Tribal collaboration and participation in the decision-making for the future of the public riverwalk.

Below are the letters of support and joint resolution.
